- John McNary Shot Wife & Paramour.
John McNary, who formerly lived near Martinsville, but who has been living in Terre Haute for some time, figured in a sensational shooting affair in Terre Haute Monday afternoon. John is a motorman for the Terre Haute Street Car Company. When he returned home Monday afternoon he found no one there. He went on a hunt for his wife and by information gained from his 9 year old son he traced his wife to the room of Elmer Fields, a Vandalia brakeman whom McNary had suspected of being intimate with Mrs. McNary. John knocked on the door to Field's room and getting no response he went to a window and tore open the blinds. Fields and Mrs. McNary were undressed and lying on the bed together. When McNary caught sight of them he opened fire on them with a revolver. Fields was hit twice and fatally wounded. Mrs. McNary was shot in the fleshy part of the hip but her wound is not dangerous. McNary is about 35 years old and is a son of James McNary who lived west of Martinsville. Mrs. McNary's maiden name was Beauchamp and she, too, was brought up in the neighborhood west of Martinsville.
