sometimes referred to as Kettering Graveyard.
Located about one-fourth mile northeast of the edge of the town of Martinsville, Clark County, Illinois.
This material researched and prepared by Don Keller, Steve Cline and David Murphy--college students of Martinsville, Illinois. Typed February of 1972 by Ellen Zschau.
The oldest marked grave seems to be that of the year old infant daughter Sarah Jane, of William and Sarah (Fasig) Taggart. The Fasigs. Snavelys and a few other families had left Lebanon County. Pennsylvania, in the 1830's, headed westward, settled for a few years in Richland County, Ohio, and then had come by covered wagon to Clark County in the mid 1800's. The land where the cemetery is located was a part of the original Fasig holdings, and was later sold to the Ketteririgs.

This is the oldest cemetery in Martinsville Township. The first burials were members of the Chancellor and Montgomory families, in the north end of the graveyard. Earliest burial recorded here is that of Polly Ann, daughter of J. and R. Chancellor in 1834, gravestone still standing and legible, July, 1972.
In about 1950, Miss Lottie Lafferty, a Martinsville genealogist, researched and prepared a list of burials in this cemetery, she being nearly eighty years of age at the time.
A plot of the cemetery was prepared by Miss Lottie´s father, John Fletcher Lafferty, in 1913 and is still legible. It is of help in locating graves, but has not been reconciled with the cemetery list of burials.
Credit for most of the work in preparing this list should go to Miss Lafferty. Additional research in 1972 has been done by Steve Cline, Miss Valerie Williams and Mrs. Ellen Zschau. The alphabetioal arrangement preliminary work was done by Mrs. Mazie Garver, and final arrangement by Ellen Zschau, July 1972.

This cemetery was copied from the stones by Mrs. Freda Stipp and Mrs. Edythe Stephens. Other information taken from death records and from the Trustee´s of the cemetery books. Copied by Mrs. Mazie Garver for the Clark County Genealogical Society. March 1975.
History of the cemetery was copied from the records of the cemetery trustee´s. The record book was made by Wayne Davis & Homer Blankenbeker April 28th & 29th, 1959. They platted the cemetery and marked lots which had not been done before.
This plot of ground was given by Jonathon Medsker, probably in the early 1800´s - I think Jonathon Medsker was buried in 1832. The Trail came into the cemetery on the N.E. corner. The trail or roadway came past the Old Peter Medsker House. I was told by William Medsker that the Lincoln Family camped at their settlement. The old trail went north west across county. There was supposed to have been an old Hotel or Inn on the west side of the road on what is now owned by Morton Wilson. There was a log house across the road where the first settler lived named Peter Dosher, a Revolutionary War Soldier. Their nearest neighbor was just west of route one near West York.
The Village of Fairview was close to the old Inn or Hotel. There was a school house north-east of this village in the woods on the land of Marshall Mattis now owns. There was another school house east of the Medsker cemetery down in the creek bottom. W.M. Medsker said they could pay their tution in "Raccoon Hides".
