Obituary of Stewart R. Spikings

Funeral services for Stewart R. Spikings, 89, of Arlington Heights, formerly of Park Ridge, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge, 418 W.Touhy Ave., Park Ridge.

Mr. Spikings passed away Friday, July 24, 1998, at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights. Interment will follow the services in Acacia Park Cemetery.

Mr. Spikings taught mechanical drawing and shop classes at Steinmetz High School from 1942 to 1950. In 1950, he opened the Park Ridge Hobby Shop. He later sold his business and in 1960, he started a wholesale hobby shop distributing company called Creative Materials which he sold in 1980 when he retired. Mr. Spikings was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served as a lieutenant. He was a 1940 graduate of Lewis University (now IIT), and he later received his masters degree from Northwestern University in 1942.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; daughters, Jean (James) Davis and Nancy (John) Dee; grandchildren, James Jr., Mark and Greg (Marina) Davis, Susan (David Dunn) and David Dee; and great-grandson, Jeremy Davis.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Hwy., Park Ridge.

(John) Dee; devoted grandmother of James (Rocio) Davis, Mark Davis, Gregory (Marina) Davis, Susan (J.D.) Dee Dunne and David (Katrina) Dee; great-grandmother of Jeremy Davis, Rebecca Davis, Adam and Alyson Davis and Cameron and Connor Dunne; fond sister of late Agnes, Mae and Harold. Evelyn was a consummate volunteer, homemaker and lover of people. Visitation Thursday, 4 to 9 p.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. Memorial Service Saturday, 11:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1903 E. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights. Private interment Acacia Park Cemetery, Chicago.
